Towing and Recovery

When a truck cannot be repaired where it sits, the priority is moving it without adding damage. We size the equipment to the job rather than dragging a loaded unit with whatever is nearest.

Towing and Recovery in Baltimore, MD

Towing a loaded tractor trailer is a different job from towing a car, and getting it wrong causes more damage than the original breakdown. Air systems need to be handled correctly, driveshafts often need to be removed, and the recovery angle on a soft shoulder decides whether the trailer arrives straight. We dispatch equipment sized to the unit and the situation, work with law enforcement when a scene needs clearing, and can take the truck directly into our Baltimore shop so the repair starts immediately rather than after a second handover.

Equipment and capability

We dispatch heavy duty wreckers and flatbed equipment matched to the unit and the recovery conditions, with landoll and lowboy capability available for units that cannot roll. Because towing and repair sit under one roof, a tow into our Baltimore shop turns straight into diagnosis rather than sitting in a yard waiting to be handed over.

  • Direct delivery into our Baltimore shop so repair starts without a second move

When you need this service

If you recognise any of these, it is worth a call before it becomes a roadside call.

Truck is disabled and cannot be repaired safely where it sits

Mechanical failure that makes the unit unsafe to drive

Vehicle has left the roadway or is stuck on a soft shoulder

Accident scene needs clearing

Trailer needs relocating without a tractor available

Driveline or axle damage that rules out towing on its own wheels

Truck is blocking a dock, a lane or a yard and has to move now

Unit needs moving between facilities

How we approach it

The sequence matters as much as the repair. Working through it in this order is what stops you paying for parts the fault never pointed at.

  1. 1

    Assess before dispatching

Dispatch establishes the unit type, whether it is loaded, the position and any damage. That determines whether a wrecker, a rotator or a flatbed is the right equipment.

  2. 2

    Consider a repair first

If a mobile repair would put you back on the road faster and cheaper, we will say so. A tow that was not needed helps nobody.

  3. 3

    Secure the scene

Traffic control and scene safety before hookup, coordinated with law enforcement where the incident requires it.

  4. 4

    Hook up without adding damage

Air system handled correctly, driveshaft removed where required, and the correct lift points used so the tow does not cause a second repair bill.

  5. 5

    Deliver and hand over

Straight into our shop where the repair can begin, or to the facility you nominate, with the paperwork completed for your records or your insurer.

Heavy Duty Towing and Recovery Are Not the Same Job

The difference decides what equipment arrives, how long it takes and what it costs. Knowing which one you need makes the phone call much shorter.

A form is fine for scheduling. For a truck that is stopped, a call gets a unit moving while you are still describing the problem.

Towing and Recovery questions

Drawn from the questions we get asked most about this specific service.

Yes. Tell dispatch the gross weight and what the load is when you call, because that determines the equipment we send. A loaded unit is not a job for undersized equipment.

Towing is moving a disabled vehicle that is still on the roadway and upright. Recovery is getting a vehicle back to a position where it can be towed, which covers ditches, soft shoulders, jackknifes and rollovers. Recovery takes more equipment and more time.

Wherever you want it. Plenty of customers have their own preferred facility or a dealer relationship. If you would rather it came to us, the repair starts sooner because there is no second handover.

Yes, including coordination with law enforcement and the paperwork your insurer will ask for. Give dispatch as much detail as you safely can when you call.

Yes. Trailer only towing and repositioning is routine, whether it is a breakdown or simply a unit that needs relocating between yards.

Very often, yes, and that is what we recommend when the fault sounds repairable. Sending a service truck for a tire, a battery or a regen is far cheaper than a heavy tow.
